What I Woke Up To This Morning

She was literally nose to nose and breathing in my face. =)

A Morning at the Vet

No, no one is sick, this was a scheduled visit. Lyla had to get her Rabies vaccine so the city will “allow” me to keep dogs for another 3 years.

Lyla has been having some tremors in her hind leg. I mainly notice it after she’s been doing a lot of running around. I asked the vet about it, and she didn’t have a good answer for me. She mentioned Addison’s Disease, but Lyla doesn’t seem to have any of the other indications, so we decided it wasn’t worth running the tests at this time. I’m trying not to over-analyze the tremors too much and trust the vet’s opinion that it’s not necessarily a symptom of anything serious.

Personally, I think that the fact that Lyla has a horribly constructed rear probably has a lot to do with it.  Her body is totally working against her mind every time she is running, chasing, herding, and I have no doubt that makes her muscle fatigue sooner than it should be. We’ll just keep an eye on it for now.

And because I like to get on soapboxes, the reason I have a dog with such a poorly constructed rear is because I didn’t read this wonderful article before I bought Lyla a year and a half ago. There are plenty of really great topics on that blog about buying a dog. Read them before you buy a dog. You won’t be sorry you did. It is so true that the purchase price is the cheapest part of owning a dog, and if you spend a little more upfront, your odds of a healthier product are better. And if for some reason your dog still has issues, well at least you have a good breeder to give a little IT support.

Picture Dump

Been playing around with different ways to put actions together. I keep coming up with quite a wide range of finished products. The most recent are these…

Sky is constantly running toward me to “check in,” so I get a lot of really cute pictures of him looking like this. Sweet!

This one captures the quietness that is Amelia. She is such a gentle, unassuming soul. I just want to hug her all day long!

This is my favorite picture action-wise, although I couldn’t quite get it were I wanted it in editing. I think that’s mainly due to the fact that it was an iffy picture to begin with in terms of light, clarity, etc, but it shows this moment so well I had to post it anyway. Lyla has this funny habit of stalking Brando and then attacking. It reminds me of how a Border Collie works stock, or maybe how a lion takes down gazelle. The funniest part of it is she only plays like this with Brando, none of the other dogs. She’s such a character!

Bad Dog Mom

Okay, I totally just realized that everyone got to be the center of a posted photo yesterday except for my poor Lyla who was only seen in the fuzzy background of one photo. So, I will make up for it by giving Lyla her very own post.

I’ve been playing around with Photoshop Actions all day and having way too much fun. Sadly, I only downloaded the 30 day trial of Photoshop because, seriously, that much money for some picture software? All that means is I’m just going to be doing nothing but snapping pictures and editing for the next month. Hooray! Anyway, what I ended up with after today is a bunch of this:

The Honorary Aussie

Lyla is my 18 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. She is my Rally dog, my herding dog, and the only non-Aussie in a four dog household. I’ve decided, however, that Lyla understands she’s not the same as the Aussies. In fact, she’s convinced she’s not even a dog. No, Lyla is pretty sure that she is my right hand girl and the keeper of all rules.

Watching her play with the other dogs is always entertaining. Lyla is a very “my way or the highway” kind of gal, and as such, all playing that she is involved with must be her idea. In taking pictures of the dogs’ play, I’ve noticed Lyla is almost always standing on someone’s back in play and never ever is she the one on the ground. Never. Not once. That’s pretty crazy. This dog has got to be one of the most status-obsessed dogs I’ve ever seen!

That just goes to show you, never let size fool you!
